你知道GT40的故事，这款勒芒冠军和最近的电影明星，但你听说过原型车GT70吗？如果你来自英国以外，也许没有听说过。这个想法是让福特欧洲公司复制GT40项目在赛道上取得的成功，但把舞台换到拉力赛场上，此前Escort在整个1960年代已取得了一连串胜利。问题在于——这也是为什么这款车可能鲜为人知——按照FIA法规，要获得拉力赛参赛资格，一款车必须至少生产500辆经过认证的量产车。GT70有六辆。它成了时势的牺牲品；WRC规则变了，生产成本攀升，而Escortcontinued to improve performance，使GT70成了一个代价高昂的“如果当初呢？”
